Review: Angel Lover

Angel Lover by Tricia Skinner (ARC Review)
Angel Assassins Book 2
Published June 30, 2015 by Entangled: Select Underworld
4.5 Broken Wings!

"The sign of a great series is when you find yourself loving each book that much more than the last. This installment is my new fave of the series."

Synopsis -

There’s no danger greater than falling for your enemy…

The Nephilim are bound. Their powers cursed. But half-angel Kasdeja will do anything to free them from Heaven's tyranny. When Kas is approached by a striking, mysterious woman, she tells him his greatest enemies hold the key to his freedom.

Mariel keeps herself shrouded in secrets, using them to hide her true self. For she is not just employed by the Renegades--enemy fallen angels—she is a double agent, working on the sly for Heaven. Her directive is to seduce the gorgeous Nephilim—despite her insecurity about such sensual acts.

For Mariel is playing a dangerous game, and falling for Kas could only cause trouble; her assignment isn't just seduction. It's destruction.  (Goodreads)

Review -

Ever since the beginning of the series its been in the back of readers' minds; Did any of the Bound Ones fathers' survive? Are there any other angels, besides the Renegades, who would like to see the Directorate take a nasty fall? Those questions are finally answered in Angel Lover. And the father and son interaction is not something fans want to miss, and will love as long as they don't expect a heartfelt reunion.

Kasdeja has always seen his talent of reading minds to be just short of nothing. Especially when compared to that of his brothers; mind control, ultrasonic soundwaves, forcefields. Though he does see his value within the team for technological savvy, others see him as the weakest link and plan on taking that to their advantage. They dangle several carrots in front his nose to sway him in crossing over the other side. The one carrot that is the most enticing is the wingless angel that continues pulling at his heartstrings. The question there is, whose side is she really on? Will what they offer Kas be enough for him to betray the only family he has ever known?

Mariel is plagued by the loss of her team. Making the ultimate sacrifice in order to make sure their killers pay and their souls can be lain to rest, she immerses within the enemies camp. When asked by the Renegades to bring Kasdeja into their fold by any means necessary she has to ask herself just how far she's willing to go, and if she even has a choice in the matter. But the more time she spends with her charge, the more she begins to question the motive behind both sets of her bosses actions, and the more she feels guilty for betraying Kas. And when she learns the truth behind all of the lies, there may be Hell to pay within the ranks of Heaven.

Seems as though another of the Bound has found a woman that is strong, smart, independent and far from being a damsel in distress.

Angel Lover is a definite must read. While it can be read as a stand alone, I would NOT recommend doing so. Readers picking up this series for the first time should begin with book 0.5, you will not be lost and will be able to enjoy the read it will be so much more rewarding when read in order. Set within the heart of my hometown Detroit brings this series close to home with all the detailed descriptions of landscapes many wouldn't even know about. Full of action, intrigue, loyalty and betrayal, Angel Assassins is a series that can enjoyed by Urban Fantasy lovers of any gender.

Review: Wicked Ride

Wicked Ride by Rebecca Zanetti (ARC Review)
The Realm Enforcers Book 1
Published June 23, 2015 by Lyrical Press
5 Blazing Spheres of Fire!

"Rebecca Zanetti has done it again! Another set of brothers that will leave readers drooling and burning for more."

Synopsis -

If you love the Dark Protectors, these wicked hot Realm Enforcers are for you!

Alexandra Monzelle is a hard-fighting, heat-packing Seattle vice cop, and she’s not much interested in being protected. Her short skirt and sex-kitten heels are tools to lure her suspects into talking about the deadly new drug hitting the streets. She can take care of herself and then some. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to get that through to Kellach Dunne.

Kellach is a fresh import from Dublin, and he’s landed at the heart of a vicious motorcycle club that deals in guns, narcotics, and mayhem. He’s all male, all rough power—and all interference in her damn investigation. Maybe he’s one of the good guys. Maybe not. Lex knows an affair with an immortal like him would risk everything. No matter how delicious he looks… (Goodreads)

Review -

When coming off from a fangatasically sensational series most authors get either tons of hate mail for the way it was ended, or for ending it period, or they get even more letters and emails asking for more. Some push out one last book or novella to appease their fans. Others like Zanetti  create a spin-off series. Avid readers know that often times that truly doesn't work out too well, as there is usually either too much or not enough of the characters from the original series involved within the new story-line. On very rare occasions readers are lucky enough to come across an author with the ability to pull off the perfect combination; Jeannine Frost, Rachel Mead, J. R. Ward and now Rebecca Zanetti.

Phenakite/Planekite/PK, or as I call it Substance P, the mineral that is deadly to witches, has made its way to the states in the form of a drug named Apollo. A drug that will make as regular overdose look like an act of mercy. A drug that the Realm cannot allow to be left on the streets or let it make its way back across the border. Who better to send to eliminate this problem but the Realm Enforcers; Kellach, Adam and Daire Dunne, with a couple of tagalongs that fans of the Dark Protectors will be more than happy to see.

Alexandra Monzelle of the Seattle Police Department is in for a rude awakening when a routine bust becomes anything but when flames start coming off of her perp, and strange, drop dead gorgeous man with an Irish brogue walks into the alley, and into her life. The daughter of a notorious drug dealer, Alex has made it her life's purpose to get drugs and dealers off of the streets. When a drug turns up in her home town that is so deadly as to incinerate its users very organs, she is more determined than ever. The problem is Alex can't seem to catch a break in the case and every lead she gets seems to keep pointing to Kellach Dunne,  mysterious man that is anything but. While her instincts and her walled up heart tell her he must be innocent, can she ignore all of the evidence leading her straight to her doorstep. Even though her hormones continue to lead her straight into his arms.

Kellach Dunne has been charged with not only clearing Seattle of a drug with the potential of becoming a weapon to be used against his kind, but to also keep an eye two of the Kings nephews'. While its a steady debate over which charge is the bigger threat to his own hide, his heart is being threatened by the local Garda. Which shouldn't be too big of a problem since she isn't an enhanced human and therefore couldn't possibly be a mate to him. Right? All he has to do is find the man/woman behind the drug, keep the humans from learning about his kind, learn the true purpose and targets of the drug, keep the hotheaded female garda safe and off of his trail, and keep two hotheads from getting themselves killed. No big deal for a big bad Realm Enforcer. Just a dramatically huge, entertaining dilemma.

Fans, new and old alike will fall in love with the Dunne brothers with this no-holds-barred first book in the series. This fast paced, action packed truly Wicked Ride is truly a must read for all Paranormal lovers of any gender.

Review: Zelle and the Tower

Zelle and the Tower by Rebekah R. Ganiere (ARC Review)
Farielle Book 3
Published April 15, 2015 by Fallen Angel Press
4 Wicked Fangs!

"Never have I heard the story of Rapunzel told in a more unique way, and I double dare anyone to try and climb her hair."

Synopsis:

Sweet and naïve Rapunzelle possesses a dangerous and powerful magick. Her entire life has been spent in a mage tower built by her father, to keep her safe. Or so she's been told.

Flint Gwyn has spent the last six months wandering Fairelle, wanting nothing more than to wash away the pain of letting family down. Between drinking and women he plummets in to despair, with only Dax the werebear to keep him from getting himself killed.

When Flint and Dax stumble into Zelle's tower while running from a dragon, she finds herself drawn to Flint in a way that awakens startling memories she cannot place. And the longer he stays, the closer she comes to losing her heart.

Unable to control his feelings for the lonely maiden who brings him peace for the first time in his life, Flint fights to release her from her prison. But in doing so, he may very well bring down the wrath of an evil that's plagued Fairelle for a hundred years. (Goodreads)

Review -

Admit it, every time a childhood Fairy tale is retold, there is a little voice in the back of your minds that screams rather hysterically "AGAIN?!", before opening the cover. When reading the first few chapters that skepticism kind of stops some, like me, from even enjoying the book. With this one, and very few others in this particular category, even while that voice screams so loud it gets hoarse, the author continuously grabs a tighter pull on you, dragging you in until that voice finds the strength to scream "GIVE ME MORE!". This is very much one of those books.

Living in a tower for her own "protection" and that of others', Zelle is rather content with her life. Her birds as her friends, and a loving father who ensures she hurt no-one by draining her deadly magic to keep Zelle and everyone else safe, never had she had a doubt as to why things were the way they were. Never questioning his love or his motives, until two men happen across her tower, and stumble into it. Men who were not exactly as they seemed; one a werebear, the other a vampire hunter. The more time she spends with these men from the outside, the more she questions what she thinks is real. And the more she craves to see the outside world for herself, there is one man, Flint, that she begins to crave just as much. What's more is not only is he awakening seemingly foreign desires within her, her true memories begin to resurface as well. And realizes that naive little princess she is not, rather something far from it.

After having his sister turned into the very thing he hunted, Flint was ready to throw in the towel and give up on life, and everyone in it. Including, or rather especially, his very own family. His head and his heart are in utter turmoil with each other; the sister he once loved vs the creature she has now become. As with all things there is no such thing as black and white, there is also no such thing as truly evil or truly good, only various shades of gray and rather dubious shades of right. Something he is going to have to learn to come to terms with or he will not only lose his family, but the woman he is quickly coming to love as well.

Separately, they each have issues to work out; one their very inner demons, the other their inner and outer demons. Something they will have to do quickly with the troubles they are about to face. Danger is fast approaching them from all sides, and what they see as their weaknesses are what truly makes them stronger than they know.

While this may be a slow moving story in the very beginning, once it get moving it's a nonstop train ride that readers will be more than happy they boarded. With a heroine that can truly hold her own. With surprises coming from every page turned, this is the best retelling of Rapunzel that I have ever read. While this book can be read as a stand alone, do not cheat yourself, as I did, by not reading the first two books in the Farielle series first.

Review -

While reading book 1 of the Nightlife Series I couldn't help but to crave more action and violence. Two of the main things I look for when reading any true vampire novel or novella. I was more than pleased with the depravity, blood violence and love mixed into to this addition to the series. First and foremost this book is definitely not for the faint of heart or anyone looking for just another Paranormal Romance in which is just basically nothing more than a Contemporary Romance with a few fangs mixed in. There is plenty of violence and definitely more than a little bit of gore.

In the first book to this series Michelle was more than dead set against the making of a bloodslave, whether accidental or on purpose. So much so that she was more than willing to destroy her lover and slave, Aaron, had he ever attempted to make another. Yet in walks Anatasia, a human with gypsie blood running through her veins, and just a touch of psychic ability. That touch being just enough to not only draw Aaron to her, but to also give him no other choice than to make her his, a bloodslave. While her initial reaction may have been to punish him, Michelle also feels the inexorable pull as he. As Ana is quickly pulled into their sordid fold and truly unpredictable love affair, enemies lurk within their grasp. Some wanting to kill them, others wanting to be them, other wanting no more than to screw them, but to the point of utter madness and willingness to kill.

They say whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but that may not be the case with this dynamic vampire duo. As Michelle is the one once again who believes that mere humans will never be a credible threat to them, she is once again proven wrong. This time having more than a few everlasting effects. Not only may she be forced to succumb to an even more dangerous addiction that that of bloodlust, but one in which is dangerous to humans, and even more drastically dangerous for a vampire developing in very dangerous, and more than a little deadly, consequences. But, she will have more than a little fun along the way. And poor Aaron will have to learn his lessons as most do, the heart breakingly way.

Full of erotically detailed sex, depravity, violence and all three wrapped together more often than not, as well as more than a little bit of love mixed in, The Nightlife Las Vegas is a truly great read. NOT for the faint of heart nor the unimaginative. Original is definitely the first word that comes to mind when describing the series of Nightlife.

The Nightlife New York Review

The Nightlife New York by Travis Luedke
The Nightlife Book 1
Published August 18, 2012
4 Fangs

"At first, it seemed like just any other making of a vampire tale and I almost put it down. So glad I didn't."

Synopsis -

The Nightlife Series is violent, sexy, and occasionally violently sexy.

Vampires, strippers, escorts, night clubs, pimps and dirty cops – the Nightlife New York is never boring.

Aaron Pilan’s life is forever changed when he’s shot trying to rescue a drop-dead gorgeous woman on the streets of New York. Aaron is thrust into the shocking world of vampiric slavery when Michelle shares her blood to save his life.

Michelle's existence as a solitary vampire is also altered when she accepts this naive young man into her life. Bound by her blood, Aaron is subject to her authority. He walks a tightrope of strictly controlled feeding regiments and intense sexual adventures while catering to the neurotic control-freak tendencies of his new master. She vows to eliminate him if he proves too difficult to control.

This story is bold and evocative, infusing blood, sex, love and turmoil in an urban drama about two vampires battling evil outside and within themselves. (Goodreads)

Review -

Die hard Paranormal and Urban Fantasy fans have nine times out of ten read a million vampire novels centering around the creation and relationship between the vampire and their maker. When beginning this book readers of that sort may feel as though this is just another of those. Just. Keep. Reading. The Nightlife is in a league of its own, slow moving at first, but when the action begins it does not let up. The violence, the sex, the drama, the relationship between master and slave, all of it is a true work of art. The bombshell takes the term claiming her man to a whole new level in a beautifully gruesome, depraving, cruel, blood thirsty way that will give her message loud and clear in no uncertain terms.

Aaron Pilan is just your average Joe living his day to day life with no expectations of anything ever happening to change his monotone life; work, call from roommate, pick up beer, go home and be taunted by ex. All that changes when he leaves from work and sees a vision being harassed. What could have been the beginning of the end turns out to be the beginning of his brand new life, well, un-life. While his new existence does come with a lot of perks everything has a downside. Falling in love with his master and knowing how she truly feels being one. The fact that if she so chooses she can order him to do anything. When a person has that much power over you, barriers become truly thin. And when that type of power is abused, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it, you begin to see everything in a whole new light. Some things not looking as beautiful as you once thought.

Michelle never planned to turn a human. Upon seeing how pure a soul the stranger attempting to come to her "rescue" was, no way could she allow him to die. Promising herself, and him, should he ever become uncontrollable, she would have no remorse in ending him. What she never considered is losing control over herself. Watching Aaron so closely to the point where she can no longer see herself, Michelle just may turn into the very thing she hates, and abuse her power over him to the point of no return. Another lesson she may learn the hard way is dismissing humans as being a non-threat. There is no greater threat than underestimating your enemy, a lesson that just may cost one of them their lives.

Though this novel would have even greater with more action, what action there is is well worth the wait. As with most firsts in a series is does move slow in the beginning, but the back story is needed to really understand these characters for not only this book, but for the rest that follow. Definitely not for the faint of heart, nor the blood shy or romance only reader. For those looking for violence, blood, sex and all three combined, this is the book for you. The Nightlife series is where the underdog goes from being a nobody, to victim, to predator. And it is a beautifully, bloody transition all blood thirsty readers are sure to love.

Excerpt:
“True.”  Fane tried to dismiss the problem from his mind.  Soon enough he would be in the seclusion of the monastery and the dangers of the world would no longer be his concern.  Right?  “It sounds like you have it covered.  I’ll send you more warriors when they’ve completed their training.”

“Dammit, Fane...”  Wolfe bit off his words as the atmosphere in the gym abruptly changed.

Both men turned to discover what had happened.

Or rather...who...had happened.

“Shit,” Fane breathed, a familiar ache settling in the center of his chest at the sight of the beautiful female who sashayed into the room.

Serra Vetrov had the habit of changing the atmosphere in rooms since she’d left the nursery.

Hell, he’d seen men walk into walls and cars drive off the road when she strolled past.

An elegantly tall woman with long, glossy black hair that contrasted with her pale, ivory skin, she had lush curves that she emphasized with her tight leather pants and matching vest that was cut to reveal a jaw-dropping amount of her generous breasts.

Her features were delicately carved.  Her pale green eyes were thickly lashed, her nose narrow and her lips so sensually full they gave the impression of a sex kitten.

Although anyone foolish enough to underestimate her, was in for an unpleasant surprise.

Serra was not only a powerful psychic, but she was a rare telepath who could use objects to connect with the mind of the owner.  Over the years, she’d used her talents more than once to find missing children or to track down violent offenders.

On the darker side, she could also use her skills to force humans, and those high-bloods without mental shields, to see illusions and could even implant memories in the more vulnerable minds.

Still, it wasn’t her dangerous powers that made grown men scramble out of her path.  Serra had a tongue that could flay at a hundred yards and she wasn’t afraid to use it.

Wolfe sent Fane a mocking smile.  “It appears I’m not the only one who listens to the grapevine.  Good luck, amigo.”

Turning, he strolled toward the cluster of Sentinels who were watching Serra cross the gym like a pack of starving hounds.

Bastards.

###

Serra kept her head held high and a smile pinned to her lips as she marched past the gaping men.  She was female enough to appreciate being noticed by the opposite sex.  Why not?  But today she barely noticed the audible groans as she took a direct path toward her prey.

She felt a tiny surge of amusement as the thought of Fane being anyone’s prey.

The massive warrior was two hundred fifty pounds of pure muscle and raw male power.  He was also one of the rare few who was completely impervious to her ability to poke around in his mind.

Which was a blessing and a curse.

A blessing because it was impossible for a psychic to completely block out an intimate partner, which was a distraction that would make any lover cringe.  There was nothing quite so demeaning as being in the middle of sex and realize your partner was picturing Angelina Jolie.

And a curse because Fane was about as chatty as a rock.  His feelings were locked down so tight Serra feared that someday they would explode.

And not in a good way.

Or maybe it would be good, she silently told herself, gliding to a halt directly in front of his half-naked form.

There weren’t many things worse than watching all emotions being stripped away as you approached the man you’d loved for the past two decades.

Especially when she was a seething mass of emotions.

She wanted to grab his beautiful face in her hands and kiss him until he melted into a puddle of goo.  No.  She wanted to kick him in the nuts for being such a prick.

Maybe she’d kick him and then kiss it better.

To make matters worse she was on a lust-driven adrenalin high.

Just standing next to his half-naked body coated in sweat made her heart pump and her mouth dry.

God.  She was so fucking pathetic.

Accepting that her companion wasn’t going to break the awkward silence, she tilted her chin up another notch.

Any higher and she was going to be staring at the ceiling.

“Fane,” she purred softly.

His dark gaze remained focused on her face, resisting any temptation to glance at her skimpy vest.  Of course, if it hadn’t been for the rare times she’d caught him casting covert glances at her body, she might suspect he hadn’t yet realized she was a woman.

“Serra.”

On the way to the gym she’d practiced what she was going to say.  She was going to be cool.  Composed.  And in complete control.

Instead the fear lodged in the pit of her belly made her strike out like a petulant child.

“You’re leaving?”

He gave a slow dip of his head.  “I’m returning to Tibet.”

The fear began to spread through her body, her hands clenching at her sides.  “Did you ever intend to tell me?”

“Yes.”

“When?” she snapped.  “On your way out the door?”

“Does it matter?”

Oh yeah.  He was definitely getting kicked in the nuts.

“Yes, it damned well matters.”

He remained stoic.  Unmoved by her anger.  “What do you want from me?”

She lowered her voice.  It wasn’t that she gave a shit that they had an audience.  Living in Valhalla meant that privacy was a rare commodity.  But she had some pride, dammit.  She didn’t want them to hear her beg.

“You know what I want.”

Something flared through the dark eyes.  Something that sliced through her heart like a dagger.

“It’s impossible,” he rasped.  “I’ll always care for you, Serra, but not in the way you need.”

She should walk away.

It’s what any woman with an ounce of sense would do.

But when had she claimed any sense when it came to this man?

Instead she stepped forward, bringing them nose to nose.  Well, they would be nose to nose if he didn’t have six inches on her.

“Liar.”

He frowned, the heat from his body brushing over her bare skin like a caress.  Serra shuddered.  Oh god.  She’d wanted him for so long.

It was like a sickness.

“A Sentinel doesn’t lie.”

She snorted at the ridiculous claim.  “Maybe not, but you can twist the truth until it screams.  And the truth is that you’ve always used your duty to Callie as a shield between us.”

His fists landed on his hips, his eyes narrowing at her accusation.  “My duty was more than a shield.”

Okay.  He had a point.

His bond with Callie had been very real.

But that didn’t mean he hadn’t hidden behind his obligation as a guardian.

“Fine.”  She held his gaze.  “And now that duty is done.”

He was shaking his head before she finished speaking.  “My duty to Callie is done, but my duty to the Sentinels remains.”

She clenched teeth.  It was true most Sentinels never married.  But it wasn’t against any rules.

Niko had just returned to Valhalla with a wife who promised to be a valuable healer, and Callie had recently married Duncan who’d recently become a Sentinel.

It might demand compromise and sacrifice on both sides, but it could be done.

So why was Fane so unwilling to even give it a try?

“I assume that’s going to be your new excuse?” she forced between gritted teeth.

Without warning his expression softened and his fingers lightly brushed down her bare arm.

“Serra, I don’t need an excuse,” he said, the hint of regret in his eyes more alarming than his previous remoteness.  She was used to him pretending to be indifferent to her.  Now it felt like...goodbye.  Shit.  “I’ve never made promises I can’t keep,” he continued, his tone soft.  “In fact, I’ve been very clear that you should find a man who can give you the happiness you deserve.”

For one weak, tragic moment she allowed herself to savor the brief touch of his fingers.   Then her pride came galloping to her rescue and she was jerking away with a brittle smile.

She would endure anything but his pity.

Hell no.

“Very generous of you.”

He grimaced at her sarcastic tone.  “I know you don’t believe me, but all I’ve ever wanted was your happiness.”

“And you assume I’ll find it in the arms of another man?”  She went straight for the jugular.

The hesitation was so fleeting she might have imagined it.  “Yes.”

She leaned forward, infuriated by her inability to read his mind.  Dammit.   Just when she needed her talents the most she was flying blind.

Was this how humans felt?

This maddening helplessness?

It sucked.

“It won’t bother you at all to know that I belong to another?”

“I will be...”  He took a beat to find the right word.  “Content.”

4.5 Bloody Stars
Readers may never view Monks in the same light after reading this series.

The tension and heat between Fane and Serra has been building up since the very introduction of this series'. A love that has been denied out of asense of duty by only one of the parties, the just may have have reached her breaking point and on the verge of putting any and all advances to an end and move on. As many of us know and have learned the hard way, the greatest joke in the Universe is when you attempt to decide what your own fate shall be. A point brutally driven home when another sect of Sentinel's come out of the shadow's, Assassins. Trained by the Monks to feel no emotions and to use their abilities in the most lethal of ways. And one has Serra within his scope range.

Serra Vetrov is one of the few high bloods fortunate enough to have not only one set of parents to love her, but two. Her birth parents brought her to the sanctuary of Valhalla knowing that would be the safest place for her, yet still remaining in her life and letting her know at every available opportunity how much they love her. An incredibly strong and talented psychic, and just as beautiful as she is lethal, Serra has never had to go wanting for much. When she comes across a Guardian whose mind she cannot penetrate and just so happens to be the Guardian of her adoptive sister, Callie, its both lust and challenge at first sight that quickly manifests into love.  And now that the bond between Fane and Callie is broken, nothing should stand in the way of them being together. Nothing but Fane himself, and Tibet.

Fane refuses to give in to the attraction he feels for Serra. Knowing that as  a Guardian his duty should come above all else, at least that's the excuse he continues to give himself. He knows that being a Guardian places him in constant danger and doesn't want Serra to ever be placed in the middle of it. Never really thinking about the fact of her being a high blood automatically places her in danger no matter who she's with. A point that is driven home when she's kidnapped. And nothing in Heaven or Hel will stand in his way to find her. Only when he does it won't be a simple matter of snatching her away and bringing her back home.

Serra is being held by an Assassin, one who will not let her go until she completes the task he needs her to do. One that will tug at her own heartstrings, and she may have done willingly had he only asked. But now her life is hanging in the balance and there is nothing Fane or anyone else can do to save her. Though there isn't much Fane will not do in attempt to at least try.

Full of magic, suspense, violence and more than a few heated love scenes, Blood Assassin is a must read for non-squeamish PNR fans. A powerful psychic that can and will use her brain as a weapon, a deadly assassin out to save the love he loves at all costs, a high blood in stasis that could cause an all out war if her powers are unleashed, and the world's most powerful Guardian out to save the woman he loves, and an Epilogue that will leave readers wide eyed and gasping makes for a powerful action packed novel that will have readers longing for more.

Review -

It took me a while to get this particular review posted due to the fact that in many ways I truly did like this story and the extreme potential it carried. But, had it not been for prior knowledge in not only music, having formerly been a violinist myself, and in science I would have been lost before even reaching the middle of the book. While some aspects of this read can still be enjoyed without certain knowledge, all of the musical and scientific terminology makes for some things lost in translation. So while music theorists and scientific gurus will fly through the book and appreciate it being that the language is second hat to them, others may find it not only distracting, but just a little too much.

Lyssa Logan is what is known as an extra sentient creature, her powers coming out in every note and vibration of bravada coming from her violin. She does not truly know what she is, orphaned at a tender age she doesn't remember anything of her mother and never knew who her father was. Her only comfort she has through having her uncanny abilities of reading others minds, is the solace of her violin. Getting lost in her music is all the comfort she has ever truly longed for. Until the sudden appearance of someone else like her makes her abilities not only stronger, but also debilitating. While discomfort is brought about due to this stranger, he also brings tranquility, the knowledge there are indeed others much like her, and a longing for something other than an object.

Kyros Vassalos has lived for centuries working on his theory of quantum physics, and saving as many extra sentients as he can. But while he is out to save them someone else seems to always be hot on his heels trying to destroy them. Staggeringly shocked when he finds Lyssa he makes it his vow to ensure her safety, for female extra sentients are more rare than a black diamond. And upon discovering more and more about her and her powers, he begins to not only fall for her, but to realize whom who father must be as well.

With the potential for being a dramatically good read with the everlasting debate between science and magic all of the terminology and focus on the scientific aspect of things made it fall flat where it could have been invigorating. If there was to be a more scientific focus, instead just using words and numbers, vibrations and light, why not focus on the origins of what these beings are and where and/what the origin of these fantastic abilities they possess come from; literally hypnotic music putting you in whatever mood the artist is playing, beserkers with the strength and rage of legends, telepathy, telekinesis, so many other aspects where the science of things could have been stretched.

So all science geeks (which is a term of endearment because I am one too) and violinists will enjoy this more than anyone else looking for a Paranormal or Science Fiction Romantic read to get lost in and fantasize about. Hopefully the next book will prove better than the first because it does pack a wallop of potential.
